EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Eucharistic adoration is prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is a close, private conversation with the risen Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. It is as close as we can come in this life to talking with God face-to-face. We become a part of Eucharistic adoration when we commit to spending a quiet hour of prayer before the exposed Blessed Sacrament.
The Catechism quotes Pope John Paul II: "The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease." (CCC, 1380)
During our hour of prayer, we can speak to our Lord about anything. We can share with Him our petitions, concerns, troubles, joys, gratitude, disappointments, needs and aspirations. The more time we spend with Jesus, the more we come away feeling renewed and healed. We are inspired and strengthened to take on life's challenges and to carry our daily cross with a new attitude. We are also inspired to recognize our Lord's gifts to us, both large and small, and to give thanks and praise always.
Every vocation in the Church comes from and through Christ Jesus. It is he who calls. Spending time in Eucharistic adoration with our divine Lord and friend is a good place to go to ask what he wants with our life. Why not spend some time each week in adoration, in union, in contemplation of the Lord present in the Eucharist?
