Cold weather has suddenly arrived and we’re thinking of our weekender backpack children who may not have warm clothing. Two schools that we serve, St Barnabas and Holy Family, are both low-income schools in the East Lake and Ensley areas of Birmingham. The principals there tell us that there is a great need for heavy jackets or coats for their pre-K and middle school children. The need is greater this year due to Covid-19 and resulting unemployment. St Barnabas has a mother and child living in a shelter and have had a family living in a car!
Our weekenders backpack program will be collecting coats to fill this need for both boys and girls pre-K sizes 4T- 5T as well as middle school sizes 10-16 through January 1, 2021.
If you would like to join us in this effort, coats can be dropped off in the gathering space at church or dropped off at ministry leader Ruth Ollie’s house in the Preserve: 670 Heritage Park Lane, Hoover, AL 35226. If you are shopping online, send the coat directly to her.
