Join us for a June Lunch & Learn series on The Sermon on the Mount. The Sermon is a collection of sayings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Matthew (chapters 5, 6, and 7) that emphasizes moral teaching. It is among the best-known and most widely quoted sections of the Gospels. It includes the Beatitudes, a version of the Lord’s Prayer (Our Father). The Sermon on the Mount is beloved by Christians, but also widely admired by important moral thinkers, including Mahatma Gandhi, Tolstoy, and has influenced peacemakers. The class will meet in Deasy Hall on June 5, 12 and 19, 2023.
In this three-week series, Dr. Dale Wisely will help you explore the structure of the Sermon on the Mount with the Gospel, how elements of it appear elsewhere in scripture, and common, but somewhat different ways, it has been interpreted theologically.
