A SignUpGenius volunteer site up has just been created for the weekender backpack ministry! Due to Covid-19, we are offering only a limited number of volunteer spots on the first Thursday of each month. The SignUpGenius will ensure that we have just the right number of volunteers for each month and that we can appropriately social distance. It will also allow the ministry leaders, Marsha Hernandez and Ruth Ollie, to contact volunteers in the event there is a change or cancellation. Some things to know:
- We require that all volunteers wear face masks and social distance during this service outreach. We will provide gloves.
- Adults only due to Covid-19.
- You will receive a reminder notice 2 days before your date of service.
- Please do not arrive early; it will not speed the process.
This ministry assembles bags of non-perishable food (both donated by parishioners and purchased by the church through cash donations) to students who have been identified by their schools as food insecure over the weekends when they cannot access school breakfast and lunch programs. These bags of food are discreetly placed in their backpacks by school personnel. We currently support 140 students at St. Barnabas Catholic School, Holy Family Catholic School and Simmons Middle School.
