Updated August 18, 2021 - A SignUpGenius volunteer site up has just been created for the weekender backpack ministry! The SignUpGenius will ensure that we have just the right number of volunteers for each month and that we can appropriately social distance. It will also allow the ministry leaders, Marsha Hernandez and Ruth Ollie, to contact volunteers in the event there is a change or cancellation. Some things to know:
- You will receive a reminder notice 2 days before your date of service.
- Please do not arrive early; it will not speed the process.
This ministry assembles bags of non-perishable food (both donated by parishioners and purchased by the church through cash donations) to students who have been identified by their schools as food insecure over the weekends when they cannot access school breakfast and lunch programs. These bags of food are discreetly placed in their backpacks by school personnel. We currently support 100 students at Holy Family Catholic School and Simmons Middle School. Soon, Gwin Elementary will be added to our list.
