School 7th grader to compete at state GeoBee

Prince of Peace Catholic School is pleased to announce that seventh grade student Doug Frederick has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2019 National Geographic GeoBee Alabama state competition. The contest will be held at Samford University on Friday, March 29, 2019. This is the second level of the National Geographic GeoBee competition, which is now in its 31st year.

Doug won the POP School GeoBee and then took an online qualifying test, which was submitted to the National Geographic Society. He was one of 100 top-scoring students in Alabama. If he wins the State GeoBee, he will receive a medal, $1,000 in cash and a trip to Washington, DC to represent Alabama in the National GeoBee in May.  Second or third place state winners receive cash awards of $300 and $100, respectively.

Doug is the son of Scott and Lisa Frederick of Hoover.
