'When I was a stranger, you welcomed me.' Matt 25:35
Jesus Christ teaches that whenever we welcome one of the least of our sisters and brothers, we welcome Christ Himself. Parishioners of a stewardship parish seek to see the face of Christ in one another. Hospitality is the cornerstone of stewardship, because it opens the door to a person’s heart and allows them to receive joy, grace and love. Hospitality is Christian kindness. Our many hospitality ministries listed below offer parishioners opportunities to offer and experience Christian hospitality, one of the four pillars of stewardship at Prince of Peace Catholic Parish.
First Friday After Mass Socials
Come and enjoy the Continental breakfast and fun social atmosphere that this ministry provides after every first Friday Novena Mass. Or, perhaps you would like to volunteer to plan and execute this monthly event. Contact Janice Alegria or Caroline Hay for more information.
Funeral Refreshments
This ministry sets up and serves either a meal or light refreshments to the family and friends of the deceased after the funeral. Contact Barb Ranieri for more information.
Ladies’ Monthly Social
This ministry group provides an opportunity for women of the parish to meet at local restaurants for lunch on the first Thursday of each month. Contact Carol Fisher for more information.
Mass Greeters
This ministry welcomes parishioners and visitors as they arrive at Mass on Saturday evening or to one of the four Sunday Masses. Volunteers arrive 20 minutes before Mass begins and are stationed at the church main entrance and the school/religious ed entrance doors to greet all who arrive. Children are welcome to serve with their family. Middle school and high school students may serve alone in the gathering space. Ministry lead is Rick DiGiorgio.
Minus One
This ministry offers a support and social group for anyone who is minus a person they loved in their life, regardless of circumstance. They meet on the second Wednesday of the month from 11 am - 1:30 am at the church. Contact Charlotte Shipic, 205-425-0061, for more information.
Senior's Lunch and Bingo
On the third Tuesday of each month our seniors gather for a social lunch at 11:30 am and play bingo afterward. Seniors interested in attending RSVP to the church office prior to the event each month. A $5 donation is appreciated toward lunch and $5 is required to play bingo.
Youth Sports
Prince of Peace invites all children of the parish who attend religious education classes and all Prince of Peace Catholic School students to participate in our parish-sponsored sports. Our teams compete against other Catholic school teams in the Birmingham Diocese in the Toybowl league.
Middle school students from Catholic parishes throughout the diocese are also eligible to try out or join the JohnCarroll Catholic middle school teams: basketball, cheer, cross country, dance, football and volleyball. For more information about JCCHS middle school sports, contact JCCHS Middle School Athletic Director Martin Rozell.
