The idea of being healed by faith has always been part of Christian faith. The Gospels give us many beautiful stories of Jesus healing the afflicted. Christians pray for healing when they are sick. We pray for sick family, friends, and others. Often, when we recover from illnesses, we give thanks to God for our healing. Yet, we know that many of us are not delivered from our illnesses, even when we pray and others pray for us. When prayer does not seem to bring us healing, or healing to those we know and love, we may feel that we haven’t lived out our faith well, haven’t prayed enough, or haven’t prayed the right way. This can be confusing and discouraging.
In this series with Dr. Dale Wisely, we will begin by carefully reading and studying some of the Gospel stories of healing. We will explore why praying for the sick is important, how it can benefit us, and how God heals today. Dr. Wisely is the director of adult education and family life at Prince of Peace.
